About Us

Fulcrum is an established Management Consultancy based in the North West of England - close to Manchester but operates throughout the UK and Ireland.

Fulcrum delivers its services through a hand picked team, each of whom is:

Qualified

Each team member is qualified to at least Masters level in their area of expertise. Most have additional professional qualifications and accreditations in complementary subjects.

Experienced

Each team member has experienced the challenges of operating as a director, manager and / or expert in their field of expertise. They have gained the battle scars and have come through older and wiser.

Everyone has personal experience of working with managers and at all levels.

Skilled

Everyone has operated as a consultant internally or externally for over five years and most have been principals in consultancy or related businesses.

Motivated

We are all committed to providing our clients with the best possible advice and support. We are enthusiastic and see each assignment through to the end - if you are not satisfied, we are not finished.

To put it simply, there are no juniors, we do not use your assignment as our training programme. The consultant assigned to your work will meet the criteria above at least as well as the person you first meet.

Our prime concern in allocating consultants to assignments is to get the right person in the right role. Similarly, we will never change a project team or member without your express approval and will only recommend such a change where we believe it is in your best interests.

Meet the Team

Jim Yates
B Tech MBA CEng FIChemE MCMI

Jim has over 30 years experience in the development and implementation of capital projects across several industrial sectors.

He has acted in Process Engineering, Project Management and Engineering Management roles in the consulting and contracting industry for most of his career.

He has held board level responsibility for

  Human Resources
  Information Technology
  Marketing &
  Business Development

He has also tutored on the Foundations of Senior Management, Strategy and Creativity, Innovation and Change modules of the Open University Business School MBA course. He currently tutors the final module in the MBA programme "Making a Difference", mentoring groups of students as they implement change initiatives in their own organisations. He has also mentored on the Huddersfield University Management Development Programme.

Jim has additional qualifications in Business Performance Coaching and Life Coaching and is accredited to deliver the Hay Group's 360 Degree Feedback based Emotional Competence Inventory.

He has consultancy experience with the public sector, SME and multinational organisations.

Allan Crapper MBA


Allan has over 40 years experience in Human Resource and Operational management at a strategic and operational level in the Public and private sectors .

In recent years, Allan has held senior management roles in management consulting specialising in organisational development and learning programmes, working for one of the big five consultancies and also several other small consultancies Allan has also held HRD posts in major organisations at Director level.

Allan has a particular interest and skill in Business Process Reengineering and the related Voice of the Customer technique.

Margaret Edwards
MSc BA MIPD



Margaret is an experienced HR professional who encourages quality thinking that leads to improved actions, effectiveness and solutions. She as a very practical approach and a style which puts clients at ease.

She is an experienced coach, mentor, facilitator and trainer and has worked with a wide variety of organisations in the public, private, social housing and charitable sectors.

Her consultancy expertise spans eleven years and covers the following areas:

Executive, management, and performance coaching

Team building, team coaching and facilitation

Leadership, management and personal development training

Change management

Bespoke training design and delivery

Margaret has had extensive senior management team experience in a large local authority, with responsibility for human resources within a major operational area and citywide project work. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, has an MSc in Human Resource Management and has lectured on the HNC Managing People course.

Helen Smith
MBA, BSc, CertEd, FInstLM, MemIOD


Helen has been passionate about motivation and performance excellence since she took an ailing team of 23 staff from 49/50 to national number one sales team within twelve months.

The combination of enabling, realistic milestones and identifying self-drivers seemed to facilitate continuous personal, team and organisational improvement. Helen has taken this experience to many other individuals, teams and organisations to help them achieve the best at what they do.

Helen has held a variety of Senior Management positions in the Healthcare sector for more than twenty years and has worked as a coach to many organisations across a variety of sectors, especially biotechnology, healthcare and innovation. She has been involved in management consultancy and training where she has worked with many new and established corporations at a strategic level and as part of a government drive to support new business.

Helen enjoys the variety of working with clients from different sectors, and exploring the many similarities and opportunities to share best practice.

Helen's special areas of interest are:

Motivation - why we do the things we do - how to achieve the best!

Organisational dynamics - to optimise performance outcomes

Strategic communications to drive desired results inside and outside the company

Helen is a trained facilitator, has marketed international brands and trained the staff who sell them.
